About The Position

As a Maintenance Engineer at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will own the reliability and performance of critical facility systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, utilities, and infrastructure across multiple sites. You’ll drive maintenance excellence by improving system uptime, developing preventive and predictive programs, that directly support Thermo Fisher’s mission of enabling our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. This role serves as the technical lead for developing disciplined maintenance planning and scheduling processes it also offers the opportunity to shape reliability strategies, implement digital maintenance tools, and grow toward Reliability or Engineering leadership positions. You’ll also support EHS compliance, energy efficiency, and capital improvement projects, acting as a key catalyst in Rochester’s maintenance transformation initiative.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Facilities Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–7 years of experience in maintenance or reliability engineering within an industrial, lab, or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical distribution, utilities, and infrastructure systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Building Management Systems (BMS), and CMMS platforms (SAP PM/MM).
  • Experience with predictive or condition-based maintenance tools and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of EHS compliance, regulatory reporting, and sustainability principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead scheduling, planning, and vendor coordination in a production environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support 24/7 production operations across all Rochester facilities, coordinating maintenance schedules, capital activities, and shutdown plans to minimize operational disruptions
  • Liaise with reliability engineer to drive improvement plans for critical systems, setting measurable targets for uptime, MTBF, and maintenance cost reduction.
  • Serve as the technical expert for diagnosing and resolving complex equipment issues through root cause and reliability analysis.
  • Optimize preventive and predictive maintenance (PPM) programs that improve uptime.
  • Lead the improvement of maintenance planning and scheduling process refining work prioritization, backlog management, and schedule adherence.
  • Leverage CMMS, BMS, and predictive analytics tools to monitor asset health and drive data-based maintenance decisions.
  • Act as a liaison between Maintenance, Operations, EHS, and Engineering to align maintenance schedules, safety reviews, and capital planning.
  • Lead vendor coordination and ensure compliance with Thermo Fisher standards, safety policies, and project quality requirements.
  • Analyze maintenance KPIs and cost trends, recommend cost-effective strategies, and report on system reliability metrics.
  • Ensure maintenance programs meet EHS, regulatory, and sustainability standards, supporting energy and waste reduction initiatives
