About The Position

The Maintenance Engineer is essential to the Mockingbird Hotel’s operational success. This role is responsible for the overall maintenance, repair, and efficiency of the property’s physical assets. You will act as a proactive problem-solver, ensuring that all building systems—from HVAC to guestroom fixtures—are functional, safe, and maintained to the highest standards. Success in this role requires technical skill, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing seamless service to our guests and associates.

Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience in hotel or facility maintenance preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of building systems (Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, and Mechanical).
  • Manual Literacy: Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Tools: Proficient and safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery.
  • Professionalism: Professional appearance and the ability to interact calmly with guests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible Schedule, available to work holidays and weekends. This is primarily a PM position.
  • Activity: Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and climb ladders for extended periods.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Environment: Comfortable working in tight spaces and exposure to extreme temperatures.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Systems & General Repair
  • Mechanical & HVAC: Perform routine checks and minor repairs on air conditioning controls, ventilation, and heating systems.
  • Plumbing & Electrical: Troubleshoot and repair issues with toilets, sinks, and pipelines; manage lighting systems, television sets, and minor electrical fixtures.
  • Kitchen & Laundry: Assist with the maintenance and repair of hotel equipment, including small appliances, commercial kitchen gear, and laundry machinery.
  • Carpentry & Finish Work: Patch vinyl/drywall and refurbish guestroom furniture (cabinets, tables, chairs, and doors). Perform painting and finishing as needed to maintain "like-new" quality.
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM) & Safety
  • Scheduled PMs: Conduct "Room Care" and equipment inspections on a scheduled basis to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
  • Safety Monitoring: Inspect and maintain fire alarms, sprinklers, and emergency exits to ensure a secure environment.
  • Pool & Exterior: Service the hotel pool (chemical adjustments/filter cleaning) and maintain exterior "curb appeal," including landscaping and painting.
  • Guest Relations & Team Collaboration
  • Response: Promptly and courteously respond to guest maintenance requests or complaints.
  • Communication: Work closely with Housekeeping and the Front Desk to prioritize repairs and ensure rooms are ready for arrival.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate logs of work orders, material usage, and chemical readings.
