PURPOSE: The Maintenance Engineer – Utilities is responsible for the reliable operation, maintenance, and optimization of utility systems across the facility. This includes steam, compressed air, chilled water, HVAC, and other critical infrastructure. The role ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards while supporting production uptime and energy efficiency.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of experience in industrial maintenance with a focus on utilities.
  • Strong knowledge of steam systems, compressed air, chilled water, Hot water system and HVAC operations.
  • Experience with mechanical systems, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) and utility monitoring platforms.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and repair utility equipment.
  • Understanding of energy management and sustainability practices.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration across departments.
  • Experience with CMMS platforms and maintenance scheduling.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications in boiler operation, HVAC, or other utility systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operation and maintenance of utility systems including boilers, chillers, air compressors, cooling towers, Hot water system and HVAC.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to mechanical, electrical, and control systems within utility equipment.
  • Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor system performance and energy usage; recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and compliance documentation.
  • Support capital projects involving utility upgrades, replacements, or expansions.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., EPA, OSHA, ASME).
  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance and inspections.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to align utility performance with operational needs.
  • Maintain CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) data for utility assets.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and support rapid recovery efforts.
