About The Position

Essential Functions: Develops and improves preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and schedules with plant RCM Engineering support to ensure equipment reliability and through consultation with other coating facilities and/or equipment manufacturers. Ensures ability to safely isolate of all energy sources when necessary. Builds and manages equipment BOMs in SAP; setting inventory levels based on criticality. Tracks all repairs and maintenance activities performed on the critical equipment in the Department. Implements design & equipment improvement projects to improve the expediency and effectiveness of the coater clean process. Provides integration with Plant Maintenance & Engineering on new coating process plans and programs. Continuously works with Plant Maintenance & Engineering and Corporate Engineering Group to improve existing process designs to reduce production costs. Assures that new production models are made and evaluated where processes are significantly changed. Evaluates and recommends future equipment upgrades and capital investment requirements. Constantly alert for technological developments in the coating process in industry and pursues appropriate developments through tests/analysis and communicates the results to interested personnel. Maintains strong working relationship with Plant Maintenance & Engineering Crew, Process Improvers in the furnace, bath, lehr, coating, and wareroom areas, and jointly implements coating applications and developments. Maintains cognizance of design and development trends as applied to safety code, or other regulatory body or agency trends, and modifies and pursues long-term plans accordingly. Knowledgeable in running the coating process with the ability to fill in for shift vacancies in the Coating Supervisor position. Able to assume the “day to day” responsibilities of the Coating Department in the absence of the department Manager. Assists the Coating Manager & other PIs in all 5S and safety initiative projects. Ensures application of appropriate problem-solving techniques (i.e. the eight-step problem solving model, DMAIC, 5-Why) on all significant manufacturing issues to ensure that production problems are resolved in the least amount of time, systems are established to eliminate reoccurrence of the production problems, and process improvement initiatives are implemented on a timely basis. Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles. Adherence to Collective Bargaining Agreement. Other duties as assigned by manager. Supervising: 2 People Scope/Dimensions: Incumbent has a high degree of organizational freedom to assign work and develop systems as necessary to achieve departmental performance goals. Incumbent should interact with employees at all levels on a regular basis to develop rapport and provide the training and support needed for all employees to contribute their full potential to the success of the site. Requirements

  • BS in related Engineering field (preferably Mechanical or Chemical)
  • Supervisory and leadership experience in a continuous manufacturing setting
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching and communication skills
  • Ability to facilitate groups in an employee involvement environment
  • Basic computer skills - Excel, Word, PowerPoint

Nice To Haves

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in the glass industry
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a Union environment
  • Excellent working knowledge of SPC, process capability, and quality systems
  • Overview of all necessary plant and department safety procedures / policies and Hazmat
  • Overview of all process operations, equipment, and troubleshooting
