As a Grade 1 Licensed Stationary Engineer, responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment such as boilers, , pumps, gas compressors, generators, motors, air conditioning systems, heat exchangers, refrigeration equipment. Performs work with attention to safety of work environment and others applying lock out/tag out procedures.

  • Maintains a variety of mechanical equipment in good working order to prevent breakdown.
  • Reads meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions.
  • Records data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, temperature or pressure, water levels, analysis of flue gases, voltage load and generator balance.
  • Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing, gaskets, valves, recorders, and gauges, plumbing, blow-down and washing of boilers, and cleaning or replacing burners, pumps, pipes, screens, strainers, or other components.
  • Oils and lubricates equipment.
  • Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment.
  • Records operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in operator’s logbook.
  • Inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
  • Observe and listen to equipment for potential issues, taking corrective action.
  • Repairs mechanical equipment.
  • Working as a team, requests colleagues’ assistance with mechanical equipment repairs.
  • Assist colleagues with maintenance and repair of plumbing, HVAC, sewer line clean out, sheetrock repair, painting, and similar.
  • Test airflow and adjust dampers and vents to desired results.
  • Applies safe work practices including the safe handling of trade related chemicals, lock out/tag out and confined space procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment, and knowledge of electrical safety.
  • Responds to emergency mechanical and environmental situations, returning to the work place.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Grade 1 Stationary Engineering License/Boiler Operation Engineer or higher with the City of Houston
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record to operating company vehicles
  • At least five (5) years commercial operating, maintenance, and mechanical repair with a strong mechanical aptitude
  • At least three (3) years hands-on boiler operating, maintenance, and repair
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at various heights
  • Ability to use manual hand and power tools
