About The Position

The Maintenance Department is responsible for ensuring that maintenance schedules are followed as outlined for respective shifts or areas. The role involves developing and maintaining written maintenance policies and procedures, planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the Maintenance Department, its programs, and activities. Coordination of maintenance services and activities with other related departments such as Dietary, Nursing, and Activities is essential. The position assumes administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for directing the Maintenance Department. It also includes assisting the Infection Control Coordinator in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related maintenance functions to ensure proper identification and recording of tasks involving potential exposure to blood/body fluids.

Requirements

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a high school education or its equivalent.
  • Must have, as a minimum, three (3) years experience in a supervisory capacity in a maintenance/plant related position.
  • Must be knowledgeable of boilers, compressors, generators, and various mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Must be knowledgeable in building codes and safety regulations.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions and follow instructions.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Ability to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing maintenance practices.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that maintenance schedules are followed as outlined for respective shift or area.
  • Develop and maintain written maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Maintenance Department, its programs and activities.
  • Coordinate maintenance services and activities with other related departments.
  • Assume administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing the Maintenance Department.
  • Assist the Infection Control Coordinator in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related maintenance functions.
  • Inspect storage rooms, workrooms, utility/janitorial closets for upkeep and supply control.
  • Participate in facility surveys made by authorized government agencies.
  • Review and develop a plan of correction for maintenance deficiencies noted during survey inspections.
  • Ensure that services performed by outside vendors are properly completed/supervised.
  • Meet with maintenance personnel regularly and solicit advice from interdepartment supervisors.
  • Review and check competence of maintenance personnel and make necessary adjustments.
  • Make daily rounds to assure that maintenance personnel are performing required duties.
  • Maintain a productive working relationship with other department supervisors.
  • Supervise safety and fire protection and prevention programs.
  • Ensure that maintenance personnel follow established safety regulations.
  • Ensure that all personnel wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies.
  • Promptly report equipment or facility damage to the Administrator.
  • Obtain and maintain material safety data sheets (MSDSs) for hazardous chemicals.
  • Ensure that containers of hazardous chemicals are properly labeled and stored.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement infection control and universal precautions policies.
  • Ensure that all personnel performing tasks involving potential exposure to hazards participate in training.
  • Make periodic rounds to check equipment and assure necessary equipment is available.
  • Monitor maintenance procedures to ensure efficient use of supplies.
  • Assist in preparing and planning the Maintenance Department’s budget.
  • Maintain current written records of department expenditures.
  • Make weekly inspections of all maintenance functions to assure quality control.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information.
  • Be prepared to handle emergencies as they arise.
  • Ensure appropriate medical waste is disposed of according to established procedures.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $85,000-95,000 depending on experience.
