About The Position

Do you enjoy working outside and with your hands? The NC State Parks has a Maintenance Construction Technician III position available. This role is responsible for maintaining state park grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. Position assist park rangers and additional maintenance staff performing custodial duties, park boundary line clearing and maintenance, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing, trimming, prescribed burns and/or auto mechanics.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
  • Must be able to work evenings, holidays, and/or weekends when necessary.
  • Position is considered "Essential/Mandatory Staff" and required to work on adverse weather days, during park emergencies, and may be called to work on special events.
  • Must be able to perform work inside and outside in various environmental conditions with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects with our without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license within 90 days of employment.
  • Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain: Class A CDL CPR Certification Emergency Medical Responder Certification Wildland Fire Suppression Certifications Certified in S212 Chainsaw Operations Training - perform hazardous tree assessments and if necessary, tree removal within the park.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated work experience performing trades in at least two of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or auto mechanics.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing grounds maintenance/landscaping.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on buildings, facilities, and/or grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience reading and/or interpreting blueprints/structural specifications and/or building codes.

Responsibilities

  • Performing a variety of skilled tasks in a trade such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and facility maintenance, and/or auto mechanics.
  • Operating various large and small tools and equipment.
  • Purchasing resources in accordance with state purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining preventative maintenance on various tools, equipment and facilities.
  • Maintaining records and preparing operational forms.
  • Assisting in housekeeping
  • May supervise temporary and/or permanent employees including various volunteers and community service participants on special projects.
