About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $41,206. to $72,113. Works closely with and reports directly to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor I. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to, the following: • Work requires specialization in two or more technical trades in connection with maintenance of facilities, related equipment and machinery. • Position functions at the journey level in multiple skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, or similar specializations. • Work assignments are complex and require planning and coordination of multiple trade disciplines. • Employees work independently in performing assigned tasks but refers very technical or unusual working problems to a supervisor for consideration. • Work will include the supervision of inmate workers engaged in semiskilled, unskilled or of skilled maintenance assignments. • Work is evaluated based on compliance with work orders and success in keeping equipment in proper working condition. • Employees may perform other duties as required. About Tabor Correctional Institution: Tabor Correctional Institution is located in Tabor City, North Carolina and houses up to 1,752 male offenders in a close, medium, and minimum custody facility.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and/or materials used in the general maintenance and/or repair of buildings, equipment, and/or machinery.
  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
