About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor I, the Maintenance/Construction Technician III requires specialization in two or more technical trades in connection with maintenance of facilities, related equipment, and machinery. Position functions at the journey level in multiple skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, or similar specializations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in the general maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, and machinery.
  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Completing complex work assignments which require planning and/or coordinating multiple trade disciplines.
  • Working assigned tasks independently and referring very technical or unusual working problems to a supervisor for consideration.
  • Supervising offender workers engaged in semiskilled, unskilled, or of skilled maintenance assignments.
  • Ensuring compliance with work orders.
  • Maintaining equipment in proper working condition.
