About The Position

Summary: Responsible for installation and maintenance of the mine communications and data systems. This includes the execution of a predictive / preventative maintenance program applying an expert level of skill on installations, troubleshooting, calibrations, and repairs of all equipment, to include electrical distribution systems (PC’s), motors, variable frequency drives (VFD’s), programmable logic controllers (PLC’s) and Control Systems (Rockwell Automation). This includes meeting all State and Federal legal requirements on all electrical and electronic systems on the surface areas and underground areas of a coal mine.

Requirements

  • Ability to work and operate equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Ability to participation in pre-shift stretching and other wellness activities.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors and others.
  • Ability to set priorities and to follow-up to ensure priorities have been met.
  • Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Ability to work any assigned shift, including evenings and weekends.
  • Willing to work overtime or on alternate shifts during planned or unscheduled outages.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision as required.
  • Stand for 5 to 10 hours on uneven rocky surfaces.
  • Be seated for up to 10 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
  • Walk for up to 4 hours at a time in uneven and wet conditions through sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom.
  • Lift up to 80 pounds without mechanical assistance.
  • Work from elevated positions, walk or climb up and down stairways and ladders and climb on and off of equipment and must be able to bend or stoop for a full shift as a result of the mine height.
  • Don and wear required safety equipment including SCSR, respirators, hearing and eye protection, and protective clothing.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-Year Technical degree in electrical technology desired / preferred
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Maintenance in a mining industry desired / preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Maintenance in an industrial setting maintaining the controls / PLC systems desired / preferred
  • Valid MSHA electrical card preffered.
  • Knowledge of: Safety and health hazards associated with the mining of coal.
  • All state and federal laws and regulations governing the mining of coal.
  • Mining electrical, instrumentation and controls equipment, systems, and drawings.
  • Vendor's software such as Rockwell Automation, Factory Talk.
  • 12,470V electrical distribution and motor controls.
  • Safe operating procedures.
  • Basic computer usage along with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Responsibilities

  • Execute all scheduled PM and PdM procedures as assigned
  • Provide troubleshooting support as required when systems are not performing to standard.
  • Provide feedback to the electrical supervisor at the conclusion of each shift.
  • Participate in the development and continuous evaluation of all PM, PdM, and CM procedures related to the electrical / electronic systems.
  • Trains and develops less experienced employees in performing preventive maintenance and routine equipment service activities. Practices situational leadership, including environmental and safety stewardship
  • Ensure that underground data and voice communication systems are functioning at all times.
  • Ensure new installations and corrective actions are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure reliability and capacity improvement projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Set the highest standard for safety, accepting nothing less than zero accidents and ensuring compliance with all safety programs and policies.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned, including non-core responsibilities as directed within the individuals skills and qualifications
