About The Position

The Carpenter maintains, services, troubleshoots, analyzes/evaluates, repairs, and installs / constructs wooden structures, sheet metal, doors, windows, cabinets, shelves, locks, closers, door operators, all associated hardware for preceding items, and other parts of hospital facility as directed including large and / or complex systems. The Carpenter Performs, or directs and oversees preventative and routine maintenance. Installs, and inspects for code and regulation compliance, wooden structures, sheet metal, doors (wooden, metal, laminate, etc.), windows, cabinets, shelves, locks (including full mortise), closers, door operators, full range of associated hardware, and other facility assets or systems as directed. Creates or modifies key patterns for security and access control. Inspects, troubleshoots, installs, repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications, using hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments. Identifies and secures appropriate supplies and equipment. Assists in maintaining plant-engineering capability of facility including development of systems for access / control of facility spaces / casework. Collaborates with other facility personnel to ensure timely completion of all projects. Provides direction, guidance and technical assistance as needed to other personnel. Documents and maintains all required records and information pertinent to assignments, work orders, instruction manuals, blueprints and other such materials as required. Provides training and technical updates other department personnel to expand department capabilities. Updates practices as necessary to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements. Research new techniques, materials, equipment and makes recommendations to management. May lead projects and directs staff on specific projects or other work assignments. Orients new employees and may provide guidance to contract staff.

Requirements

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Graduate of a trade or vocational school or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Five years Carpentry / Locksmith experience in commercial or healthcare related maintenance required.
  • Licensure, certification, and/or registration: none.
  • Other Minimum Qualifications: Familiarity with all relevant codes for hospitals and commercial occupancies.
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and others.
  • Ability to maintain required records and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to use a computerized work order control system.
  • May be asked to provide basic general purpose maintenance tools.
