The Maintenance Carpenter performs general carpentry and assorted duties necessary to maintain, repair or upgrade all facilities, structures, equipment and utilities. Work involves: planning and laying out of work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions, using a variety of carpenter’s hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments, and making standard computations relating to dimensions of work; and selecting materials necessary for the work. The work requires rounded training and experience from an apprenticeship program or equivalent training and experience.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.
  • At least five (5) years of commercial carpentry experience completing similar work.
  • Journeyman Carpenter and/or commercial carpentry experience.
  • Familiarity with basic mathematical functions as required.
  • General knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards.
  • Ability to perform assigned work tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • U. S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required intelligence community level clearance.
  • Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screen.
  • Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and team lift 75 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess required security clearance.
  • Broad based knowledge of woodworking techniques and construction methods.
  • Knowledge of commercial doors and windows.

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance and repair work such as foundations, interior walls, exterior walls, all types of exterior siding, all floor covering, sub-floors, catwalks, commercial doors/frames, windows, partitions and all other building components as necessary.
  • Plan, organize work and meet all deadlines. Able to do a variety of tasks in any single day.
  • Coordinates with other trade and warehouse personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.
  • Respond to emergency site maintenance as required.
  • Able to inspect and diagnose problems to determine corrective repairs.
  • Perform on call and preventive maintenance duties as necessary.
  • Assists with periodic stock inventories and prepares material requisitions for replacement items.
  • Required to safely operate customer and company motor vehicles and/or other equipment.
  • Will be required to perform various lower classified duties such as (but not limited to) file maintenance, workspace cleanup, maintain warehouse space and telephone answering as required.
  • Assists and supports other trade groups and/or department staff in daily operations as needed.
  • Adheres to the established safety and personnel policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
