About The Position

The Maintenance Carpenter performs skilled carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, repair and alteration of building structures and facilities following recognized procedures and techniques of the carpentry trade and using hand and power tools such as saws, hammers, chisels, levels, drills, presses, sanders, table saws, joiners, planer and related carpentry tools. The Carpenter also practices preventive maintenance of carpentry tools and equipment, and complies with federal regulations governing safety, environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal and the use of chemical substances and materials common to construction. This unique position has a duality of paramount importance; the maintenance of Symphony Hall, a 100+ year-old, world-class music venue, and the support of concert operations and world class musicians. The candidate must exhibit a can-do attitude and remain flexible to the organization's ever-changing needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of High School or Trade School graduate.
  • Experience of five years in general or skilled carpentry and/or graduate of accredited trade school.
  • Licenses specific to position, a plus. (Builder, Safety Team Member, etc.)
  • Ability to lift and carry minimum of 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Office furniture and partition set-up, break-down and repair.
  • Maintain and install a variety of door entry sets, locks, closers, and fire/life/safety devices.
  • Maintain established key system, cut keys, and order supplies as needed.
  • Snow and ice removal ensuring safe walking conditions for patrons.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks, interior and exterior, as well as assist facilities team members as requested.
  • Assist in Bi-annual banner/sign changes and decoration installation on interior and exterior of the buildings.
  • Provide leadership and labor for major seating reconfiguration (Change-Over).
  • Provide support to Stage and Production departments as requested.
  • May be required to work a flexible schedule and be subject to emergency call-ins for unusual situations.
