About The Position

Maintenance Associate Job Description Position: Maintenance Associate Full-Time: 8-4:30, Monday- Friday with rotating weekends Department: Operations Reports to: Facilities Manager FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Starting Wage: $21.50/ hour Summary The Maintenance Associate supports the ministry’s mission by ensuring that the shelter is safe, clean, and welcoming for all who enter. This role performs repairs, preventative maintenance, maintenance of grounds, and light custodial work while helping create an environment that reflects the love of Christ. The maintenance associate works closely with staff, volunteers, and guests, serving with integrity, compassion, and excellence. At New Life Center, every role is a form of ministry. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of simple maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of caring for and maintaining vegetation.
  • Must be in good physical condition.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time as well as kneel, crouch, crawl, etc.
  • Ability to walk up and down flights of stairs multiple times during work shift.
  • Able to climb a ladder and work at heights of up to 35’.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, hot or cold.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, up-to-date proof of insurance, and a driving history in accordance with insurance carrier requirements.
  • If in recovery, a minimum of one year of sustained recovery with active participation in a 12-step program is required; two or more years is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Must exhibit good judgement, sensitivity, and compassion.
  • Must be able to work well with others and exhibit a positive, professional, and friendly disposition.
  • Must demonstrate a strong work ethic with consistent attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections of shelter, grounds, and equipment.
  • Complete basic repairs in plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and painting.
  • Respond promptly to work orders placed by NLC staff or supervisors.
  • Alert Facilities manager of any building maintenance issues beyond skills and abilities.
  • Maintain and regularly inventory all tools and equipment, including notifying the facilities manager of items that may need to be purchased.
  • Support custodial staff with occasional cleaning, trash removal, and dorm cleaning.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment based on a predetermined schedule.
  • Maintain records of completed maintenance inspections (safety equipment and vehicle maintenance).
  • Maintain grounds throughout the year.
  • Conduct seasonal upkeep (snow removal, sidewalk salting, mowing, trimming, etc.).
  • Identify and report safety hazards.
  • Follow proper safety procedures including utilizing proper safety equipment and lifting techniques while performing assigned job duties.
  • Follow OSHA, fire safety, and building code requirements.
  • Participate in emergency drills and assist in shelter safety procedures.
  • Assist in supervising and mentoring guests assigned to work therapy.
  • Work in unity with staff and volunteers to further the shelter’s mission.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors when needed.
