About The Position

The Maintenance Assistant will perform basic upkeep and repairs on campus buildings and facilities, including tasks like changing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing/HVAC/Boiler issues, cleaning common areas, performing minor repairs to furniture, and assisting skilled maintenance technicians with larger projects, all while ensuring the overall cleanliness and functionality of the University's grounds.

Requirements

• Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent is generally preferred.
• Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
• Some knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, custodial, and grounds preferred.
• Must have a valid Texas driver's license, related insurance, and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic upkeep and repairs on campus buildings and facilities.
• Change light bulbs and fix minor plumbing, HVAC, and boiler issues.
• Clean common areas and perform minor repairs to furniture.
• Assist skilled maintenance technicians with larger projects.
• Work with Grounds, Custodial, HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, or Painting as needed.
• Assist in monitoring and recording temperatures and conditions of refrigeration and cooking equipment.
• Perform various welding, soldering, and brazing functions.
• Assist in adding chemicals to boilers and cooling systems.
• Perform repairs and preventative maintenance for heating and cooling systems.
• Assist with the maintenance and repair of plumbing on campus.
• Monitor equipment operation in mechanical rooms for needed repairs.
• Assist with the installation of plumbing fixtures and piping.
• Assist with maintenance and repair of electrical systems on campus.
• Inspect electrical components and identify electrical problems using testing devices.
• Assist with carpentry and painting tasks, including installation of structures and fixtures.
• Maintain cleanliness of equipment and mechanical rooms, and remove trash.
• Maintain shop inventory of supplies and materials.
• Maintain records and assigned office space, workshop, and vehicle cleanliness.
• Work in inclement weather and perform on-call duties.
