The Maintenance Assistant position is under the direction of a supervisor and involves performing semi-skilled activities and tasks typical of various trade specialties, including carpentry, mechanical, electrical, motor equipment, and painting. The role requires the use of hand and portable power tools, shop equipment, measuring and testing instruments, and other equipment to conduct maintenance, repairs, renovations, and alterations. Maintenance Assistants are considered essential personnel and may report to state and/or federal supervisory personnel. They are expected to work independently and thoroughly, addressing problems and understanding the reporting chain of command. Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance and repairs, general grounds maintenance, troubleshooting facility issues, maintaining automotive equipment, and possibly supervising subordinates. The position may also involve assisting with maintenance requirements for the Nonmilitary Use Program and requires reliability and trustworthiness.
