Maintenance Assistant (Plumbing) Summary: The Maintenance Assistant (Plumbing) is responsible for proactively addressing plumbing related projects for the District under the direction of the Director of Facilities and the Assistant Director of Facilities. The District includes ten schools and one administrative building. General work hours are between 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and hours may require adjustment to address emergency repairs or work that needs to be done outside of when students/employees are in buildings. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners. Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains. Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations. Inspects structures to ascertain obstructions to be avoided and to prevent weakening of structures resulting from installation of pipes. Locates and marks position of pipes and pipe connections and passage holes (in walls and floors). Directly administers repairs that may include but are not limited to welding holding fixtures to steel structural members; cutting openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings; and cutting and threading pipes. Assembles and installs valves, pipe fitting, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, lead, and nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic. Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking. Aids in the general maintenance of school building when required. Works with Assistant Director of Facilities to procure parts appropriately through the EPS Finance Office.
