About The Position

The City of Pacifica is establishing an eligibility list to fill two existing openings for Maintenance Assistance and Maintenance Worker II positions. The Maintenance Assistance role involves performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair of City streets, sanitary sewers, storm drains, parks, and recreationally landscaped areas. The Maintenance Worker II position requires supervising a small crew and participating in similar maintenance and repair tasks, with additional responsibilities including minor repairs to heavy equipment and supervising work on public works projects.

Requirements

  • Valid California driver's license and ability to drive.
  • Knowledge of common tools, materials, and practices used in construction, gardening, and maintenance work.
  • Ability to operate trucks, motorized equipment, and hand tools.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Physical strength, agility, endurance, and ability to perform heavy lifting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in public works construction, gardening, and maintenance work.
  • Ability to lay out and supervise work of a small crew.
  • Ability to read landscape, sprinkler, and play equipment plans.

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair of City streets, sanitary sewers, storm drains, parks, and recreationally landscaped areas.
  • Supervise a small crew in the maintenance and repair of public works projects.
  • Operate trucks, motorized equipment, and hand tools.
  • Perform basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, and pipe-fitting work.
  • Conduct street traffic control and sign painting.
  • Clean out catch-basins and perform preventative maintenance on storm-related issues.
  • Repair irrigation systems and maintain landscaped areas.
