About The Position

Join the Facilities Operations and Maintenance team, a highly responsive and knowledgeable crew providing outstanding service for Facilities Services and to the university community. Engineering & Technical Support, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive engineering and technical support to the maintenance groups and other departments in service of the University’s operations. Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Requirements

  • For all levels: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction management, or other engineering field from an ABET accredited university.
  • Two years of increasingly responsible experience with facility HVAC, mechanical and electrical system measurements, analysis, design, capacity modification, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of building and energy codes.
  • Experience with simultaneously designing and managing several projects through to conclusion within restrictive time constraints.
  • PC experience including developing and using complex spreadsheets and software for engineering analysis, project budgeting and cost tracking, and facilities management.
  • Ability to review and interpret MEP plans and specifications.
  • Engineer I - Bachelor's degree in above fields with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Engineer II - Bachelor's degree in above fields with 5-8 years of direct experience.
  • Engineer III - Bachelor's degree in above fields with more than 8 years of direct experience.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in mechanical, electrical or other engineering field from an ABET accredited university.
  • Progressive experience in a university or institutional environment.
  • Five years of additional and increasingly responsible experience with large commercial HVAC, mechanical and electrical system measurements, analysis, design, capacity modification, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in MEP system commissioning.
  • Experience in developing preventive maintenance programs for large commercial mechanical systems.
  • Experience with determining project costs, energy savings, paybacks, and locating sources of project funding.
  • Experience with design, procurement, installation, programming, maintenance, commissioning, and project management.
  • Licensed by Texas State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
  • Commissioning certification or other related certifications or licenses.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze cause, recommend and implement solutions for problems related to mechanical, electrical, and other complex building systems under existing conditions or resulting from renovation/new building systems.
  • Assist with developing, documenting, and continuously improving maintenance procedures and guidelines by staying abreast of the latest technology improvements in preventive maintenance and other facilities maintenance activities of existing, renovated and new systems. Load that information for PMs and information into management systems.
  • Manage maintenance repair projects, including budget oversight, communicating with customers, coordinating with other work groups, and directing contractors.
  • Review design drawings and specifications for HVAC controls and other mechanical/electrical systems tied to new construction and renovation projects to ensure energy efficiency, maintainability, and compliance with standards.
  • Provide technical input on construction projects to arrive at the best life cycle cost solution for mechanical and electrical systems. Participate in development of university MEP standards.
  • Organize and maintain drawings, maintenance manuals, maintenance repair procedures, and guidelines. Further support the optimization of the maintenance management system.
  • Assist and supervise the coordination of inspections of new and renovated buildings. Participate during inspections and follow up on resolution of deficiencies. Participate in the owner’s meetings and reviews from DD and post construction process.
  • Participate in the review of construction submittals and close-out documentation. Make site visits on a regular basis. Meeting with owner, project manager, contractor, etc. Enter warranty data into tracking system. Follow up to ensure resolution of warranty claims.
