About The Position

The Maintenance & Operations Worker is part of a team off our who perform maintenance activities on Prince William County's stormwater infrastructure. The primary functions of this role may include, but are not limited to: Key element to a team with 1,000+ Stormwater Ponds and 672 Miles of Stormwater Easement to maintain. Opportunities to operate and maintain assigned equipment and tools. Routinely perform strenuous physical labor in all weather conditions; Safely and properly operate hand tools, power tools, small equipment, and vehicles; Engage customers and coworkers respectfully and courteously and maintain composure and act when faced with difficult people or situations; and Follow directions, complete tasks within specified timeframes, adapt well to change, and work effectively as part of a team. Requirements

  • Minimum of an 8th-grade education with the ability to read and write standard English at an 8th-grade level or higher.
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License, driving record eligibility
  • May require a CDL License or the ability to obtain one, to include alcohol and controlled substances tests per Federal Transit Administration Mandate Title 49 Transportation §382. Subpart C, if applicable to the position
  • Must pass Pre-Employment Physical
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to perform duties which involve handling, applying or otherwise working with hazardous materials
  • May be required to be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds regularly; up to 80 pounds occasionally; and up to 125 pounds as applicable
  • May be required to respond to emergencies after normal working hours, as needed
  • Outdoor work environment (Exposed to plants, insects, severe weather, hot/cold temperatures)

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience performing grounds maintenance, construction, landscaping, or other manual tasks is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and procedures related to drainage, road maintenance and improvements.
  • The ability to work well with others in all types of conditions.
  • The ability to use hand tools and power tools in a safe manner.
  • Punctual tendencies and a positive attitude.
