About The Position

Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a multi-disciplinary arts center located in Brooklyn, New York. For more than 150 years, BAM has been the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas-engaging both global and local communities. With world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more, BAM showcases the work of emerging artists and innovative modern masters. BAM is currently seeking a building Maintainer to perform preventive, proactive, reactive, and corrective maintenance throughout BAM including HVAC & controls, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and other duties as assigned. Under general supervision, the Maintainer performs responsible work in maintaining BAM's buildings and equipment. The qualified candidate may assist the Director and Maintenance Supervisor of facilities to respond to all HVAC emergencies and other emergencies as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of years (3) year related experience in H.V.A.C. trouble shooting, repair and operation preferred.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of building maintenance/systems and architectural drawings as normally acquired by the completion of related Vocational Training Program, required.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices and regulations.
  • Ability to use all equipment and follow safety procedures before using it properly and safely.
  • Maintains current knowledge of new products, equipment, and methods relating to his field.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Suites (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • The qualified candidate must be willing to accept training in the computerized climate control system and any/all equipment for which BAM provides training for. To maintain the position of Maintainer, the selected candidate must be willing to secure and maintain all necessary licenses and certificates required by New York State, New York City, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The following additional NYC Fire Department Certificates of Fitness must be held, but can be obtained within 6 months of start of employment and must be maintained throughout employment: CMRP (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional) HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Condition Certification) P-99 (Low Pressure Oil Burner Certificate) FDNY RSOE-Q99 (Refrigerating System Operating Engineer) F.L.S.D. (Fire Life Safety Director Certificate) S-12 (Certificate of Fitness for Sprinkler System) S-13 (Certificate of Fitness for Standpipe System)
  • The selected candidate must be willing to work any shifts as may be required. In an emergency, the Maintainer is identified as an essential worker, and overnight shifts may be required. The position requires work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Tasks require manual dexterity and ability to safely use hand and power tools (e.g., drills, saws) and operate equipment (e.g., tractor, snow removal machines, jack hammer, table saw). Some tasks require climbing ladders, kneeling, bending, and moderate lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Schedule: 3:00PM - 12AM, Thurs/Fri off (subject to change)
  • Must work in all buildings as needed

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Supervising Maintainer or working independently, performs responsible and independent work under general supervision in the operation, maintenance, and repair of all areas.
  • Attend to customer requests for work to be completed in a timely manner
  • Maintain building automation set points as needed and directed by the supervisor
  • Update work orders, inspections, and other information on desktop computers and mobile devices
  • Daily work may require but not be limited to installation, maintenance, and repair of the following: <li>HVAC Equipment Electronic Controls Plumbing Equipment and Devices Domestic Water Heaters Pumps and Pumping Systems Locks and Locksets Roofing and Waterproofing Systems Restroom Fixtures
  • Other work may require but not be limited to: Lighting change outs Cleaning of Mechanical Equipment Rooms Work from Ladders, Scaffolding, and Lift Equipment Carpentry, Painting, and other General Trades
  • Complete work order and material inventory data using desktop and mobile devices, tracking proactive and reactive asset maintenance and inspections.
  • Responds, as required, to all emergencies by performing emergency repairs in all trade fields.
  • Take appropriate stopgap measures when complete repair cannot be made at the time and communicate to the others in the crew status and recommendations.
  • Responsible for the safety and protection of buildings, collections, and personnel.

Benefits

  • This position is full-time and non-exempt, eligible for OT, and benefits.
  • The salary range for this role is $58,400 - 62,000 and will be paid in accordance with the BAM/DC37 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
