About The Position

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent education.
  • 5 years of experience in roadway maintenance or construction for Maintenance Assistant I; 6 years for Maintenance Assistant II.
  • Valid driver's license and a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Considerable knowledge of methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in transportation engineering construction and maintenance.
  • Proficient skills in scheduling work assignments and coordinating labor, materials, and equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with budgeting methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Experience in inventory/stock control procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the maintenance section supervisor in overseeing work completed by crews and contractors.
  • Lead the work of Transportation Maintenance Crew Chiefs, technical and clerical staff.
  • Maintain records on materials, supplies, and personnel.
  • Handle public complaints and respond to emergency notifications as needed.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement emergency responses to inclement weather and hazardous spills.
  • Issue driveway permits and estimate drainage pipe sizes for driveways.
  • Inspect road conditions and work completed by crews and contractors.
  • Train employees on the use of equipment and procedures.
  • Operate light and heavy roadway equipment as necessary.
