Requirements

  • Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar technical major. Information Systems or Data Science with an interest in enterprise automation. Mathematics, Physics, or other STEM majors with programming exposure. Any discipline supplemented by coursework in scripting or systems integration.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university as an undergraduate student.
  • GPA 3.0 or greater
  • Must return to school in the Fall of 2026.
  • Familiarity with Git fundamentals such as branching and pull requests.

  • Hands-on experience with Linux or UNIX shell environments and basic system utilities.
  • Exposure to REST APIs or HTTP-based integrations.
  • Curiosity about mainframe platforms and modern DevOps practices.

Responsibilities

  • Configure VS Code and Zowe CLI extensions to provide secure REST access to z/OS (Mainframe) datasets and utilities.
  • Build sample workflows that leverage CDA (Cloud Data Access) Services and GDKUTIL (new utility to move data between Cloud and z/OS) to treat z/OS storage as cloud-accessible assets.
  • Collaborate with system engineers to prototype utilizing z/OS USS (Unix System Services) in cloud integration scripts and running Java workloads on z/OS.
  • Create Git migration runbooks and host quick-start sessions to onboard mainframe development teams.
  • Set up VS Code with Zowe, CDA, and Git tools so it connects securely to BMI z/OS environments.
  • Document Git-centered workflows for migrating legacy source libraries and share the approach with mainframe and application developers.
