Requirements

  • 4-year college degree and relevant equivalent experience with strong mainframe (COBOL, JCL, CICS, IMS) programming skills and production support experience preferably in insurance/finance domain.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a detail-oriented mindset, with the ability to understand complex business logic and analyze the system and data.
  • Basic experience with SQL and data analysis.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team environment on a complex mainframe system with good problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work with various stakeholders, managing concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and willingness to adapt to new technologies and ways of working.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with migration of Mainframe applications to other platforms.
  • Knowledge of Assembler.
  • Practical knowledge of LTC insurance products and premiums.
  • Experience in a managed services environment, working with an onshore-offshore model, managing to SLAs and work queues.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum or Kanban).
  • IMS database experience in an MVS and CICS environment.
  • Exposure to Product Accelerator tool.
  • Advanced SQL programming experience.
  • Experience with modern mainframe development and testing tools.
  • Knowledge of automated COBOL conversion tools.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Long Term Care policy administration system by monitoring the system, resolving failures, job abends, policy related incidents, system defects, and maintaining interactions with peripheral systems.
  • Analyze incidents raised by users to assist them with completing business activities, determine the impact of the issue, and propose solutions.
  • Design, code, document, and test solutions ensuring they meet acceptance criteria and fit within the overall technical architecture.
  • Support changes through the testing process, assist with test planning, defect resolution, and technical system activities.
  • Implement solutions following the established change control process.
  • Create reports from system data to perform data analysis, support business activities, and fulfill regulatory and audit requirements including SOX audits.
  • Perform administrative duties in conjunction with departmental requirements, participate in meetings, agile ceremonies, and provide status updates.
  • Take ownership of work and collaborate with the team to ensure incidents are completed in a timely manner considering their severity, impact, and urgency.
  • Assist team members in resolving complex business and/or technical problems.
  • Provide technical advice on complex programming.
