The Main Street Iowa State Coordinator plays a crucial role in revitalizing Iowa's communities by providing technical assistance and support to local leaders. This position involves managing key programs and initiatives that enhance the economic development of towns across Iowa, making it a dynamic and impactful role.

  • Conduct on-site technical assistance including annual program visits, board retreats, training, strategic planning, and Main Street America Transformation Strategy development.
  • Offer support and counseling to local executive directors and board members.
  • Provide start-up services for newly selected programs.
  • Conduct on-site visits to participating communities as requested.
  • Meet with local program staff and executive directors to build understanding of the MS Four Point Approach® and to provide support and counseling.
  • Represent Main Street Iowa nationally at conferences, training sessions, and communications between states.
  • Participate in Main Street America contract negotiations and management.
  • Manage annual reporting and accreditation processes with Main Street America.
  • Oversee program development, state program reviews, and adjustments to improve service delivery, while ensuring compliance with program agreements and rules.
  • Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a major emphasis in research, planning, economics, finance, public relations, business, corporate finance, journalism, or marketing.
  • Four years of full-time experience in specialized technical support work which included responsibility for interpreting laws, rules, and regulations, and/or securing compliance with them; or compiling and evaluating statistical, historical, economic, business, financial or related technical program data.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of the required experience for each year (thirty semester or equivalent hours) of the required education.
  • Experience in program management, community development, or a related field.
  • Strong communication skills to build relationships and inspire local leaders.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
