Requirements

  • Strong understanding of heavy equipment repair, diagnostics, and service processes.
  • Ability to interpret work orders, technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
  • Proficiency with service management systems, scheduling tools, and digital diagnostic platforms.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage shop workflow, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, warranty processes, and Caterpillar service standards.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to walk, stand, or observe work in shop environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to wear required PPE when in shop or operational areas.
  • Ability to lift or move equipment components as needed during inspections or support tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing a heavy‑equipment service shop or similar technical operation.
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment, systems, and dealership operations.
  • Certifications or training in leadership, operations management, or equipment service management.
  • Technical training or an Associate/Bachelor’s degree in diesel technology, business management, or a related field preferred.
  • Hands‑on experience with heavy equipment diagnostics and repair.
  • Experience managing technicians and coordinating complex repair operations.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to support technicians on difficult jobs.
  • Customer‑service experience in a technical or equipment‑related environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily shop operations, including technician assignments, job scheduling, and workflow coordination.
  • Review and approve work orders, repair estimates, and service documentation.
  • Ensure repairs are completed accurately, efficiently, and according to manufacturer standards.
  • Monitor shop productivity, labor efficiency, and job turnaround times.
  • Communicate with customers, service advisors, and internal departments regarding job status and repair recommendations.
  • Coordinate with parts, rental, and field service teams to support shop operations.
  • Maintain shop equipment, tools, and work areas in safe and organized condition.
  • Support warranty claim processes and ensure proper documentation.
  • Enforce safety policies and promote a culture of safe work practices.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop shop technicians and support staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and identify training needs or skill gaps.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and development of new shop personnel.
  • Promote teamwork, communication, and accountability within the shop.
  • Lead daily or weekly shop meetings to review priorities, safety topics, and operational goals.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance shop performance.
