About The Position

The Mail Processing Driver at Western Washington University is responsible for mail processing, tracking, and package distribution across the university. This role includes picking up and sorting incoming and outgoing mail, operating mail processing equipment, and providing backup support at the campus Post Office. The position requires independent functioning based on established routes and vendor schedules, ensuring efficient and accurate mail deliveries while adhering to USPS regulations.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Current driver's license with clean driving record and unrestricted license
  • Experience using organization-wide package tracking programs
  • Ability to enter and operate vehicles with ease
  • Ability to climb stairs for access to buildings without elevators
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes and bags of packaged mail up stairs that may be 70+ pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to effectively operate various mail processing equipment and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs
  • Experience with bulk mailing
  • Experience with delivery driving at a large company or college/university
  • Previous USPS training, vendor training or mail certification

Responsibilities

  • Pick-up and sort incoming and outgoing mail/packages for campus departments and the university dorm system.
  • Meter outgoing mail according to USPS postal regulations and requirements using high speed metering equipment and tracking software.
  • Send outgoing packages via USPS and FedEx using department billing codes to track charges.
  • Scan all incoming packages into SCLogic package tracking software for on-campus tracking and delivery.
  • Operate machinery such as high speed inkjet addressing machine, folder/inserter, bundling machine, folder and tabber to process mailings.
  • Deliver completed mailings to special USPS bulk mail location, interacting with USPS personnel regarding bulk mailing questions.
  • Knowledge of four established mail routes on campus and ability to drive a van in congested areas.
  • Provide daily back-up for the Retail Clerk Lead at the campus Post Office, including customer service and cashier duties.
  • Provide direction on daily tasks to student employees and respond to their questions about mail handling.
  • Ensure quick, efficient and accurate mail deliveries.
