Major Duties Under general supervision, the Mail Clerk performs work involving the daily collection, coordination, sorting, distribution, and forwarding of United States mail and other printed and packaged materials for all residents living in University Park Apartments and Suites and University Village Apartments. The incumbent assists in training Mail Assistants and coordinating mailbox key/combination distribution. Maintains processes for distribution of packages, and the database of current resident mailbox numbers and forwarding addresses. Handles requests for flyer distribution from campus and community organizations. Assists with the hiring and training of student Mail Assistants and maintains student Mail Assistant work schedule, work flow, and quality of work. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • One year of general office clerical work, stock clerk work or delivery service work.
  • LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE.
  • General knowledge of office methods, supplies and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of current postage rates and shipping rules and regulations.
  • Ability and skills to: accurately interpret and apply current postage rate charts and regulations; spell correctly; read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; problem solve; perform mathematical calculations quickly and accurately; and lift and move bags of mail.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with professional staff and students.
