About The Position

Purpose of Classification: The purpose of this classification is to process incoming and outgoing mail, packages, and other correspondence and to deliver mail to County offices. Essential Functions: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required
one year of experience in customer service, mail processing and delivery, or related field preferred
any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skill, and abilities for this job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

Responsibilities

Processes incoming mail; stamps date and time of receipt into mailroom; sorts mail for distribution; delivers interoffice mail to County departments; and transports mail to satellite facilities.
Processes outgoing mail for delivery to post office; sorts mail by type and/or destination; weighs mail to determine correct postage; seals envelopes; and utilizes postage machine and postage meter.
Calculates postage rates and additional fees for registered mail, insured mail, returned receipt requests, priority mail, express mail, etc.
Processes packages for shipping; inspects packages for appropriate labeling/addressing; weighs and measures boxes; prepares shipping documentation; and delivers packages to shipping companies/representatives.
Performs customer service functions by telephone and in person; provides information and assistance related to mail services, activities, procedures, fees, forms, or other issues; responds to complaints; researches problems; and initiates problem resolution.
