About The Position

You will serve as a Mail Clerk in the Supply Division, Code 346200 of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY. In this role, you will be responsible for various mail handling tasks, including answering the NRL Locator Service, receiving and processing mail, and ensuring compliance with USPS and Navy regulations. This position is permanent and full-time, located at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
• Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
• Must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Answer the NRL Locator Service and look up mail addressed to individuals throughout the Laboratory.
• Receive mail of all classes and special services (registered, certified, express, etc.) from the USPS.
• Process mail in accordance with USPS, POSTOPNSDIV, and NRL regulations.
• Inspect mail in accordance with Navy regulations.
• Sort, file, sack, bundle, wrap, and tie mail before loading onto mail trucks for delivery.
• Answer telephone inquiries concerning preparation for mailing and dispatch of material unclassified through secret.
