About The Position

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist is a highly skilled professional who uses specialized MRI equipment to produce computer-generated diagnostic images which aid radiologists in diagnosing a wide variety of diseases and disorders. They perform procedures at a technical level requiring sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology; a high degree of technical competency and with the ability to act with initiative and ingenuity with minimal supervision. Employees in this position will be responsible for inpatient on-call and shift rotation.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree under the completion of a Radiologic Technology program Required or Certificate under the completion of MRI technology program Required
  • Minimum one (1) year MRI experience Preferred
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging - American Registry Radiologic Technologist or registry eligible (if eligible must obtain MR certification within 24 months of hire or transfer date) Required
  • Radiography - South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association Preferred
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire. Recertification every two year Required

Responsibilities

  • Review orders prior to the day of procedure to ensure accuracy and to avoid delay in patient care.
  • Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure and MR safety while utilizing effective communication.
  • Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologist’s interpretation.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure.
  • Perform MRI procedures as required based on physician’s order.
  • Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of MRI and related coils to obtain highest quality images of the anatomy being scanned.
  • Start I.V., load and operate power injector, and administer contrast media as directed and per protocol.
  • Completion of exam in hospital information system.
  • Cleaning and maintaining all imaging equipment.
  • May also assist with mentoring and/or training students, new hires.
