About The Position

The Magnet Program Coordinator serves as an advocate for integrating the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Magnet Objectives in the assigned school and within the district. This role supports the thematic implementation, enhancement, and sustainment of the school’s particular magnet program. The coordinator markets the school and WCPSS Magnet Programs to potential magnet families and other interested community members and stakeholders to inform the community and increase the school’s number of applications from target-market families. Additionally, the coordinator supports teachers at the magnet school with all aspects of theme-related curriculum implementation, working collaboratively with the Instructional Resource Teacher (IRT), Professional Learning Teams (PLTs), teachers within the school, and staff in the Office of Magnet and Curriculum Enhancement to increase theme-specific curriculum implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Five years of K-12 teaching experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of K-12 curricular standards adopted by the State of North Carolina.
  • Considerable knowledge and willingness to use social media tools to market the school/program.
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google apps.
  • Ability to use multiple resources for problem solving.
  • Ability to design, plan, and deliver professional development using effective presentation skills for adult learners.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a magnet school.
  • Experience writing, adapting, or enhancing existing curricula or creating new curricula.
  • Experience planning and delivering professional training to adult learners.
  • Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or Educational Leadership.
  • Background, experience, or courses in marketing or design.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between the Office of Magnet And Curriculum Enhancement Programs and the school’s leadership team.
  • Advocate for the school’s magnet theme in the School Improvement Plan.
  • Attend and share information from Magnet Coordinator Meetings with school administration and leadership.
  • Evaluate theme-specific training needs and collaborate to design an annual professional learning plan.
  • Deliver targeted sessions on theme-related curricula, Magnet Objective integration, growth mindset, and magnet theme essentials for both existing and new school staff.
  • Communicate Magnet Objectives to staff and stakeholders, and track school integration progress.
  • Supervise and lead review/analysis of magnet-related curricula.
  • Connect community partners and staff in theme-based experiences that promote the magnet program.
  • Collaborate with the Magnet Office and coach staff on creation of theme-based instructional frameworks for diverse learners.
  • Manage all theme-related materials and curricula.
  • Collaborate with the Principal on aspects of the master schedule that relate to magnet curriculum and theme.
  • Communicate with counselors and data managers about thematic elements as related to scheduling and courses.
  • Develop an annual marketing and recruitment plan that includes a variety of events.
  • Lead and attend recruitment events, ensuring the look of the building reflects the theme.
  • Manage magnet-related communication with parents and the community.
  • Involve teachers and students in planning and implementing magnet advisory groups.
  • Develop an annual magnet funding plan to support innovative curriculum resources.
  • Assist the principal and bookkeeper with tracking magnet instructional supply money.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
