About The Position

The position involves conducting trials and hearings in accordance with Civil Rule 53, managing a docket primarily focused on domestic relations, and issuing decisions on various family law matters. The role requires a licensed attorney to perform legal research, prepare trial materials, and ensure compliance with court procedures while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Possess a law degree and be licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio.
  • Be in good standing with the Ohio Supreme Court and current on all CLE requirements.
  • Have a minimum of four years of practice in the State of Ohio, preferably in domestic relations.
  • Exhibit excellent research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Be a full-time employee of the Court with no outside private practice.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct trials and motion hearings pursuant to Civil Rule 53.
  • Promptly hear and decide all cases referred within the Ohio Supreme Court guidelines.
  • Complete dockets in an orderly and efficient manner.
  • Manage the docket for Child Support Enforcement Agency actions.
  • Set parenting time, temporary custody, and support orders.
  • Issue written decisions and orders regarding valuation and division of marital property and other matters.
  • Review Agreed Entries and Shared Parenting Plans for signature or return for corrections.
  • Substitute for Judge as requested to hear and render decisions for uncontested complaints for divorce, petitions for dissolution of marriage, and contested divorce actions.
  • Handle the majority of the docket for domestic violence civil protection orders, civil stalking orders, sexually oriented offenses protection orders, and dating violence protection orders.
  • Prepare entries from pleadings filed with the Court.
  • Review Motions when filed with the Court and conduct appropriate legal research and draft entries for the Judge's review.
  • Review civil cases and issue orders regarding discovery, case scheduling, and related pretrial matters.
  • Conduct arraignments and bond hearings as requested.
  • Conduct legal research as required by the Judge or demands of the job.
  • Review pending non-oral hearings and issue orders as required.
  • Prepare trial packets for upcoming jury trials and draft jury instructions and verdict forms for review.
  • Stay current on case law and legislation.
