About The Position

The position involves operating various machines to shape and cut materials such as steel, aluminum, and plastic. The role requires determining machine settings, monitoring operations, and ensuring quality production while adhering to safety protocols. The operator will work with both manual and computer-controlled machinery, contributing to the manufacturing process in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Certificate in Machine Tool Technology or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

• Determine settings of machine and calculate where to cut or bore.
• Shape materials including steel, aluminum, titanium, and plastic.
• Select tools and materials for the job and plan the sequence of operations.
• Position work piece on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine.
• Monitor and control feed rate and speed of the machine.
• Ensure work piece is properly lubricated and/or cooled.
• Regulate temperature of work piece and detect problems by listening for specific sounds.
• Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations and monitor the accuracy of cuts.
• Replace dull cutting tools and check accuracy of work against specifications.
• Produce quality parts and determine how automated equipment will cut a part.
• Write basic programs and modify programs in response to problems.
• Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
• Document and communicate actions, irregularities, and continuing needs during shifts.
