Job Title: 2nd Shift Machinist Reporting To: Manager, Production Work Schedule: Onsite – Blacksburg, VA To be considered for the Machinist, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you: High School diploma or GED preferred. Otherwise, demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English, and demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. 6 years of related machining experience and/or education. At least 3 years’ experience with CNC lathes – capable of setting up machines with a general knowledge of speeds and feeds for lathes. Experience operating lathes with 15 inch – 24 inch chucks. Proficiency in geometric dimensions and tolerancing To be able to lift at least 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation. As a Machinist, you will: Operate lathe, mill, and understand different styles and types of taps and dies (metric and standard) Operate various types of hand tools, power hand tools, grinders, drills, belt sanders, disc sanders, sand and bead blasters. Operate and understand power band saw, cut off saw, proper selection of speeds, feeds, tooth size, guide setting, and blade replacement. Cleaning assembly and various other tasks as required and ability to verify work completed meets requirements of blueprints, standards, and work instructions. Applicant must have knowledge and experience with the following as applicable to the area they are assigned: Conventional and CNC lathe Conventional and CNC mill Grinder Drill press Machine accessories Precision measuring equipment Other equipment and tools necessary to complete the job tasks Solve in-process equipment and tooling challenges. Complete machining operations with/without planning/prints Demonstrates skill in tool design and implement improvements to existing tooling. Ability to verify work completed meets requirements of blueprints, standards, and work instructions. Complete paperwork accurately and legibly Basic computer skills to validate documents and verify revision. Assist in training/cross-training of others. Participate in Continuous Improvement Process Work with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrate ability to meet output requirements (Quality, Quantity) upon completion of probationary period. Cognitive ability and manual dexterity necessary to perform assigned job/tasks. Perform other duties as assigned
