About The Position

Position Summary The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating computer numerical controlled (CNC) machinery that automatically mills, punches, drills, broaches or reams metal. They are also required to do any other tasks assigned to them as a team member in the manufacturing plant.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Related experience in machining.
  • Some knowledge of broad variety of metals and extensive knowledge of measurements.
  • Able to drive forklifts, use overhead cranes, and knowledge of rigging.
  • Versatile and willing to help the manufacturing team while also putting safety as a top priority.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for both internal and external customers.
  • Exceptional organization skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to be proactive and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Detail-orientated with ability to respond quickly to a fast-moving and ever-changing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; trimming heads.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Other tasks as required.
