About The Position

MACHINIST, MAINTENANCE Interpret and work from Navy drawings, blueprints, and specifications while ensuring compliance with all military standards and tolerances. Program, setup, and operate CNC and manual machining equipment, including mills, lathes, and grinders to fabricate complex components. Manage projects involving tight tolerances, requiring precise measurements, and detailed surface finishes per Navy requirements. Perform quality inspections using advanced measuring tools (e.g., CMMs, micrometers, and calipers) to ensure alignment with specifications. Troubleshoot machining problems and make adjustments to meet stringent Navy standards and job specifications. Collaborate with engineering teams on Navy-specific designs, contributing expertise on manufacturability and materials selection. Train and mentor junior machinists on complex techniques, Navy standards, and safety protocols. Maintain all records, documentation, and logs in accordance with Navy or Department of Defense (DoD) standards. Conduct regular maintenance of machining tools, ensuring optimal operation and longevity. Ensure compliance with workplace safety, hazardous materials handling, and Navy-related regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years as a machinist, with at least 2 years working directly with Navy or defense-related drawings and specifications.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in machining, manufacturing, or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming (e.g., G-code, CAM software like Mastercam, Fusion 360).
  • Expertise in reading and interpreting Navy-standard blueprints and technical drawings (e.g., MIL-STD or NAVSEA standards).
  • In-depth knowledge of materials such as specialty steels, aluminum alloys, and composites commonly used in Navy equipment manufacturing.
  • Advanced understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and military fabrication standards.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in compliance with Navy tolerances.
  • Strong problem-solving and ability to manage complex workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with engineering and leadership teams.
  • Must be a US Citizen

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications in CNC programming or machining (e.g., NIMS, HAAS certification).
  • Experience with Navy-specific production standards, including NAVSEA requirements, MIL-SPEC tolerances, or other DoD compliance protocols.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies for process improvement.
  • Experience working in a machine shop supporting government contracts.
