We are seeking a Machinist to fabricate components in our Metal Fabrication Shop at our Severn, MD Production Operations Facilities.

Requirements

  • Experience programming and operating 3 axis CNC milling machines
  • Experience with Solidworks CAD software and MasterCam or similar software tools
  • Experience identifying raw materials required for fabrication
  • Experience fabricating complex electronic enclosures
  • Experience providing labor and material estimate for prototype and production builds
  • Ability to work in an automated factory using digital work instructions or travelers
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a Space manufacturing environment
  • Experience supporting DFM and MRR reviews
  • Experience fabricating sheet metal chassis’ and components to include CNC punches and welding
  • Experience programming and operating 4 or 5 axis CNC milling machines
  • Experience painting, powder coating, engraving and silk screening
  • Experience with a quality management system such as AS9100 and ability to support internal audits and recurring surveillance audits
  • Ability to develop digital travelers
  • Active Secret security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Independently, with minimal supervision, program, set-up, and operate 3 and 4 axis vertical CNC machines.
  • Modify CNC programs to obtain optimum machine utilization and minimize scrap loss ensuring proper tool usage.
  • Work from blueprints, rough sketches, production diagrams, engineering drawings and verbal instructions to fabricate a variety of complex machined components.
  • Make complex shop calculations to layout difficult patterns and determine tooling feeds and speeds.
  • Utilize drill presses, manual milling machines and lathes, sanders, and other hand and powered tools.
  • Support prototype development activities, working with mechanical design engineers on the manufacturability of prototype machined parts and assemblies relative to form, fit and function and based on the shops capabilities.
  • Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other precision-measuring instruments.
  • Inspect work for conformance to specifications.
  • May set-up and make "first-article" check on difficult production runs.
  • May prepare recommendations for improvements in methods or processes relative to improved productivity and quality.
