About The Position

Crux Subsurface, a subsidiary of Quanta Services, Inc. (NYSE: PWR), is a geotechnical drilling company merging innovation with experience to consistently provide accurate data and efficient, constructible solutions to projects of any size. Our multidisciplinary team combines the expertise of structural and geotechnical engineers with experienced drillers, construction managers, geologists, and quality management specialists. Crux Subsurface is seeking a Machinist to develop custom parts using CNC technology and equipment according to design specifications. This is a small in-house shop focused on prototype and custom component work — not high-volume production. You'll operate and maintain CNC and manual machines working primarily with mild steel, alloys, and aluminum.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years CNC experience in a professional shop setting
  • Proficiency in GMAW and FCAW of mild steel
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints including weld form symbols and fillet specifications
  • Proficiency in basic G&M code — ability to alter programs to meet design criteria
  • Experience with CNC lathe setup including loading programs, tool touch-off, and jaw boring
  • Ability to lift 50–70 lbs regularly throughout shift
  • Forklift experience
  • Own hand tools and bottom cabinet toolbox (sockets/wrenches ¼" to 1-1/8", full screwdriver set, pliers, etc.)
  • Steel-toed boots

Nice To Haves

  • 2–3 years CNC experience preferred
  • MasterCam experience or certification
  • Experience with alloys and aluminum

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC lathes and CNC mills/machining centers
  • Perform manual mill and lathe work as needed
  • Build custom parts to print or specification
  • Read and interpret blueprints including weld symbols and tolerances
  • Write and edit lathe and mill programs using G&M code
  • Use MasterCam to program CNC mill and lathe operations (preferred but not required)
  • Set up tooling, touch off tools, and bore jaws as required
  • Write lathe and mill programs
  • Perform routine maintenance on all machining equipment; coordinate non-routine repairs with Shop Superintendent
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and productive work environment
