About The Position

Machinists set up and operate a variety of machine tools. They fit and assemble parts to make or repair other machines, using knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, material properties, layout, and machining procedures. Ensure that processing equipment is maintained in a safe and clean condition. This position has been identified as 'safety sensitive' by thyssenkrupp under applicable laws. Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair and calibrate precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, height gauges and other measuring devices.
• Verify dimensions of machined parts or tooling using micrometers, verniers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, co-ordinate measuring machines (CMM) or other specialized measuring instruments.
• Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces.
• Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, planning, drilling, precision grinding and other operations.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts & tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations.
• Verify that material meets work order specifications per written work instructions and record measurements (sampling plan).
