GE partnered with Hudson Valley to create the Machinist Technician Technology Program (MTTP) which combines both academic studies and on-the-job training to develop the fundamentals required to become a skilled machinist with GE Power machine tools. Students will attend class at Hudson Valley 4-days a week and report to the GE Schenectady site 1-day a week for training during the fall and spring semester. Students will train full-time during a summer semester through an internship, and will be eligible for employment as a GE machinist following graduation. Job Description Program Summary Specialized 2-year program combining on-the-job training with coursework through Hudson Valley Technical College Students spend 4-days a week in the classroom and 1-day onsite training during the school year Mandatory internship during the summer term All applicants will go through a entry exam and interview process prior to employment Apprentices paid for on-the-job training Tuition, and books paid by GE through sponsorship All applicants will be subject to a retention agreement of 2 years in order to be sponsored by GE Mentoring, teamwork, ongoing reviews Earn a 2-year Machine Tool Technology Associates Degree Training in basic measurements, assembly, safety, print reading, and many other manufacturing processes Hands on experience working in a manufacturing environment Skill set with the latest machining technology Personal development through coaching and mentoring Ability to make a measurable impact Entry into an in-demand skilled craft

  • Work from drawings, sketches, and other instructions to perform machining operations such as mill, turn, face, bore, groove, contour, dovetail, drill, tap, etc. to precise mechanical tolerances
  • Assists in taking and recording various measurements / runouts of components
  • Report any conflicts to the Shift Supervisor
  • Complete daily point of work risk assessments and Safety Observations
  • Record and report daily time
  • Aggressively maintain a safe working environment to include good housekeeping practices of assigned work area and comply with all applicable environmental, health and safety policies
  • Perform tooling set-up and maintenance activities as directed
  • Maintain classroom GPA of B or better
  • Pass technical ability reviews during summer internship period
  • High School Diploma / GED
  • 1 – year work experience or education in machining specific trade area
  • ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to score at least a 75% on entry exam
  • Ability, with or without accommodation, to pass site functional test lift/push/pull
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as required
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional weekend shifts
  • Ability and willingness to work on an off-shift (2nd: 3pm-11pm, 3rd: 11pm-7am)
  • Ability and willingness to wear personal protective equipment, for example safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, and safety shoes
  • Ability and willingness to take a pre-employment test and submit to technical interview to maintain program sponsorship
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job.
  • Employment is contingent on applicant signing a 2-year retention agreement with GE that begins after program graduation.
