Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. SA-TECH has supported all instrumentation efforts of the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Prototyping, Instrumentation, and Experimentation (PIE) Group and the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) Airborne Instrumentation Systems Division (AISD) since September 2015 through two consecutive contract awards. Our support encompasses the full spectrum of instrumentation from design (engineering and drafting) to fabrication and installation, to the day-to-day support (calibration, preflight support for Test/Evaluation, post-flight support). The breadth of customers that PIE supports ranges from U.S. DoD and partner nations to the occasional support of commercial projects for industry partners as well as the entertainment industry. Work is performed at three geographically-separated locations: Patuxent River, Maryland; China Lake, California; and Point Mugu, California. SA-TECH is currently seeking to hire a Machinist/Technician (Engineering Technician IV) to serve as a mid-level technician in the Machine Shop for our Advanced Packaging Support Department, supporting engineers and machine shop personnel in the mechanical fabrication, mechanical assembly, test and installation of prototype parts used in aircraft systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • At least nine (9) years of experience performing relevant duties with at least five (5) years of machine operating experience
  • A minimum of one to three (1-3) years of set up experience
  • Two (2) years of CNC programming experience
  • Fluent understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Able to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, drawings, and 3-D models
  • Able to use basic measuring tools such as micrometers, gauges, calipers, etc.
  • Experience with conventional machines
  • Current Driver's License required
  • U.S. Citizenship required and ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to hire date

Responsibilities

  • Program and set up CNC mills and lathes
  • Operate CNC mills, lathes, and band saws
  • Operate conventional equipment such as bench grinders, hand tools, deburr equipment, etc.
  • Read and interpret blueprints for inspecting parts
  • Use measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, calipers, gauge pins and thread gauges
  • Clean, sort and organize
  • Perform minor assembly work including helicoils, nut plates, nuts, bolts, etc.
  • Provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians
  • Participate in planning for manufacturing or repair items by determining facilities, equipment, material and number and type of personnel required
