About The Position

Our organization is searching for a machinist. An ideal candidate would be well-versed in the following: fabricates, installs, maintains, and repairs the mechanical systems and components of ships, submarines, and other marine vessels. This position requires expertise with machine tools, precision instruments, and technical drawings to ensure the safe and efficient operation of propulsion systems and auxiliary equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proven experience as a machinist, preferably in marine engine and systems repair.
  • Prior military experience in a relevant rating REQUIRED (e.g., Navy Machinist’s Mate) highly valued.
  • Skilled in manual and CNC machine operations.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting ability for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Welding and fabrication skills required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or certificate from a vocational/technical school in marine technology or related field preferred.
  • Industry certifications such as those from the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and written specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Set up and operate machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses, to fabricate or repair parts.
  • Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, vernier gauges, calipers) to verify accuracy of machined parts.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in engines, pumps, valves, propulsion, and auxiliary systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and testing on vessel machinery to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Disassemble and reassemble complex machinery for repair or overhaul using hand and power tools.
  • Install, align, and secure repaired or new components according to engineering specifications.
  • Perform pipefitting, welding, and metal fabrication tasks as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, parts used, and deficiencies found.
  • Follow all safety protocols in shipyard, workshop, and vessel environments.
  • Collaborate with engineers, electricians, welders, and other trades to complete projects efficiently.
