Lapper Machinist I – Entry Level Overview The Lapper Machinist I is an introductory role focused on learning the fundamentals of lapping, polishing, and finishing operations. Employees in this level work under close supervision and follow established procedures to support production needs.

Requirements

  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to follow instructions and maintain attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of shop safety practices.
  • Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds
  • Manual dexterity
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic lapping and polishing tasks under direct supervision.
  • Follow detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with setup and preparation of lapping equipment.
  • Operate and tend grinding, polishing, and related machines to meet dimensional and surface‑finish requirements.
  • Use precision measuring tools to verify part conformance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, measurements, and inspection results.
  • Report defects or irregularities to senior machinists or supervisors.
  • Perform routine maintenance on lapping and grinding equipment; report issues requiring engineering or maintenance support.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
