About The Position

This job involves the setup and operation of various machine tools, including conventional, special purpose, and CNC/NC machines, to fabricate and repair metallic and nonmetallic parts. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full manufacturing process, which includes planning procedures, laying out stock, performing precision machining and assembly work, and ensuring all manufactured or repaired parts meet strict specifications for production or plant maintenance use. This role requires expertise in shop mathematics, metal properties, and the ability to operate a wide array of equipment and precision measuring instruments.

Requirements

  • Operation of Machine Tools: Must be proficient in setting up and operating a variety of machines, including mills, lathes, grinders, shapers, and CNC/NC machines, to achieve required dimensions and finishes.
  • Precision Measurement and Layout: Required to accurately measure, mark, and scribe dimensions on raw material and verify the conformance of finished work -pieces using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • Tool Setup and Calculation: Must be able to select, align, and secure cutting tools and fixtures, calculate, and set machining factors (speed, feed, depth of cut) or input/edit computerized machine control data.
  • Assembly and Fitting: Needs the ability to fit and assemble machined parts into complete units or mechanisms, often using jigs and fixtures, and install replacement parts in machinery.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Required to observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out -of -tolerance machining, make necessary adjustments or repairs, and maintain/lubricate machine tools.
  • Reading Blueprints and Planning: Must be able to determine material requirements by studying blueprints, sketches, or specifications, and plan the necessary working procedures.
  • Technical Knowledge: Must understand at least four of the five maintenance disciplines (Electrical, Hydraulic, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Welding) and have a working knowledge of the fifth (Welding) through formal training.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts from plane/solid geometry, trigonometry, probability, and statistics, as well as practical math like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Physical Demands: Requires the ability to stand regularly, reach, and use hands, and to frequently lift up to 25 pounds (occasionally up to 50 pounds). Specific vision abilities (close, distance, peripheral, depth perception) are required.
