About The Position

ASR is seeking an experienced Machinist II to support the US Air Force at Nellis AFB, Nevada fabricating, repairing, and modifying precision components and tooling for advanced aircraft instrumentation systems . This role is critical to ensuring operational readiness of test aircraft supporting USAF Operational Test and Evaluation missions. The Machinist II will work in a high-security environment alongside engineers and technicians to deliver precision machining solutions for unique instrumentation requirements.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in precision machining and machine shop operations (Level II).
  • Proficiency in operating conventional machine tools and specialized precision machines.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, material properties, and advanced shop mathematics.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Skilled in using precision measuring instruments and maintaining close tolerances.
  • SECRET clearance required; ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI preferred.
  • Ability to work in a high-security environment and comply with Air Force flight line safety and maintenance protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain a variety of conventional machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, and specialized equipment.
  • Fabricate, repair, and modify tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, molds, and gauges to precise dimensions and close tolerances.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical specifications; prepare work layouts and calculate dimensions using advanced shop mathematics and trigonometric functions.
  • Select appropriate materials (metals, alloys, plastics) based on physical properties and machining requirements; apply processes such as hardening, annealing, and stress relieving.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, optical comparators) to verify accuracy of machined components.
  • Collaborate with engineers and instrumentation technicians to design and integrate custom machining solutions for aircraft modifications and instrumentation systems.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with OSHA and Air Force safety standards.
  • Support occasional travel for off-site operations and adhere to all security and OPSEC requirements.
