About The Position

The Machinist I is responsible for operating CNC milling machines in a production environment by loading, unloading, and properly orienting parts, performing in-process quality checks, and making minor offset adjustments as required. This role focuses on running established, proven programs while ensuring parts meet quality standards and production expectations.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of CNC machining concepts
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, prints, and inspection requirements
  • Comfortable using basic measuring equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift parts as required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years of CNC experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience running vertical machining centers.
  • Familiarity with basic G-code or Mazatrol concepts (no programming required).
  • Understanding work order, blueprints, control plans, materials, specifications, drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, critical surfaces/edges, and machining parameters while interpreting geometric dimension and tolerances (GD&T)
  • Understanding work instructions ad zero/reference points
  • Understanding of basic math, geometry, and trigonometry
  • Positive and proactive attitude toward completing work orders
  • Willingness to learn and grow through Sun Hydraulics

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds at times

Nice To Haves

  • Technical CNC Certificate preferred.
  • Technical college degree preferred
  • 2+ years' experience using production machinery
  • Experience working with a Mazak Star/Integrex or Swiss Lathes a plus

Responsibilities

  • Load, unload, and properly fixture parts in CNC milling machines according to work instructions.
  • Verify correct part orientation and perform required part flips between operations.
  • Start and monitor CNC milling cycles, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  • Perform in-process and final quality inspections using basic measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.) per the control plan.
  • Make minor tool wear and dimensional offsets within established guidelines.
  • Identify and report out-of-tolerance conditions, tooling issues, or machine concerns to leads or supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate production and inspection documentation.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and work instruction requirements.
  • Keep work area clean and organized by 5S standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and teamwork on the shop floor.
