About The Position

The Gill Corporation is one of the world's largest manufacturers of honeycomb, high performance floor panels, cargo compartment liners and original equipment for passenger and freighter aircraft. The company also excels in many other types of reinforced plastics including interior sandwich panels for creating structures such as aircraft galleys and bulkheads, honeycomb core and related products. The Gill Corporation is seeking a Machinist I. Under general supervision of an experienced Machinist 2, Sr CNC Operator or Supervisor, sets up and operates Broaching machine to cut and form metal work pieces to specifications. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Machinist I will perform but not be limited to the following responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalency
  • Up to 4 years of related experience
  • Understand drawings, ASME Y14.5 geometric tolerances
  • Understand CNC machine programming concepts
  • Ability to satisfactorily use computer-based software tools
  • Experience shearing/forming metallic materials (Titanium and aluminum)
  • Must have English reading and verbal communication skills sufficient to read, understand and communicate the company operating procedures and policies.
  • Must be able to lift, push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to demonstrate math proficiency equal to or greater than required for the position applied.
  • Must be available to work the shift specified by the position and be flexible to potential overtime on weekends/ holidays and temporary shift changes.
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

Nice To Haves

  • Machine shop experience with brake and forming operations.
  • Hands-on experience using hand and power tools (drills, grinders, saws).
  • Experience operating milling machines, including end mills and rotating multi-point cutters.
  • Experience using measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece.
  • Using machine controls, operator retrieves programs from the appropriate shared drive and work order.
  • Manipulates controls and enters commands to properly shear (cut) and form part to specification.
  • Properly positions material during shear and forming process as specified in setup instructions.
  • Inspects work piece for conformance to specifications.
  • Notifies supervisor of any discrepancies.
  • Materials include titanium, aluminum or as provided.
  • Check cutting tools for wear; tools are replaced/re-worked as necessary to support production
  • Assists other operators as necessary to insure work flow is consistent and quality requirements are maintained.
  • Other essential duties may be assigned.
