About The Position

A machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining precision machinery to produce high-quality parts and components according to specifications. They should be skilled in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD designs, and proficient in using tools such as lathes, mills, grinders, etc.. A machinist must ensure adherence to safety protocols, perform quality checks, and troubleshoot equipment to maintain optimal performance. Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are essential for success in this role. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Technical vocational trade school certification/Journeymen Apprenticeship in machining or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience planning, constructing, altering and/or repairing prototype fixtures, dies, and castings where accurate relationships, fittings, and interchangeability of parts may require maintenance of extremely close and rigid tolerances
  • Strong experience in operating machining equipment listed above
  • 2 - 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or operational role, with a basic understanding of lean principles and practices.
  • Blueprint Interpretation
  • Use measuring equipment, such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to read and record dimensions
  • Need to be able to communicate effectively with other department as the need arises

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and experience with table routers and 3D printers (plastic)
  • Ability to teach others use of tooling and safety requirements to expand machining capacity is authorized and specific scenarios
  • Preform complete preventative maintenance on machine ship machinery
  • AutoCAD programming experience

Responsibilities

  • Set and operate machines to alter an assortment of metals, plastics, fiberglass, and wood on the following machines and equipment
  • Milling Machine
  • Band saw
  • Drill Press
  • Lathe
  • Bench grinder and wire wheel
  • Sand Blaster
  • Table saw
  • Chop saw
  • Powered hand tools (including but not limited to angle grinder, cutting wheel, electric screwdriver, power saw, router, circular saw, impact wrench, etc.)
  • Identify existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or work conditions related to machining operations and stop work when appropriate
  • Collaborate during stop work to implement safety and quality mitigations
  • Work within the GE Aerospace and OSHA machine guarding requirements
  • Working to high tolerances with high quality
  • Support operations with on-time delivery and cost through executing machining with limited need for rework, proper planning and execution of prioritization plans, care and maintenance for tooling and machinery, and aligning to standard work and training
  • Maintain a high standard for cleanliness around the machine shop
  • Read, understand, and implement machining based on engineering drawings and specifications, work instructions, tooling sheets, technical data sheets and safety data sheets
  • Self-inspection requirement and therefore desired to be conversant with statistical in process verification systems
  • Perform tasks that require manual dexterity and lift up to 50lbs
  • Complete all required training
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance on machine ship machinery
