POSITION SUMMARY The Apprentice is responsible for various duties within the department including programming and operating a CNC machine or preparation, plumbing, spotting, and handwork of molds. Reporting to the Site Lead, the Apprentice ensures first time quality is a priority every time while also achieving time allowances for each job assigned. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES While Working Alongside Class A Mold Makers: Build/fabricate mold components which includes but is not limited to; rough-out mold components, stabilize work piece material, produce cores, produce lifters, inserts, and slides, produce cavities, produce detailed parts, perform final inspection, complete work documentation, maintain material identification, and move work piece Fit and assemble a mold which includes, but is not limited to; transfer and locate holes, fit and size mold components, check cooling and heating circuits, install mold components in the spotting press, spot the mold, final-inspect mold, install ejector system components, install runner system components, check assembled mold, move work piece, and complete work documentation Finish /polish the molding surface which includes, but is not limited to; identify and select hand-finishing tools, clean and deburr mold surface, detail the work piece, remove tool and cutter marks, verify contours of the work piece, final-finish the mold surface, complete work documentation, and move work piece Devise and detail a plan for the mold-building process including; verify features of the mold components, develop and organize a mold build plan, perform mold-building related calculations, assemble and verify tooling stock materials, produce a detailed sketch of mold components, build tooling aids for mold-building process, lay out template(s), and produce templates Design, build, and repair molds and models used to mass produce plastic or metal components or products Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and work-process documentation Perform work-in-progress measuring or checking using specialized and precision tools and equipment Make all appropriate personnel aware of any potential tooling problems, issues or questions Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs using provided paper and/or electronic logs; Adhering to customer standards on all tool designs and the internal lean manufacturing guidelines Maintaining safe operations by keeping work area clean and organized and by adhering to safety procedures and regulations Participating in required meetings and training, as requested. While Working Alongside Machinists: Import, manipulate, and process 3D models; Machine steel with close attention to health and safety requirements; Use tools and machinery provided; program, setup and operate the CNC machine using MasterCam, 3-AXIS, and powermill 5Aixs. Machine mold plates, components, cores and cavities; holding tolerances as tight as less than 0.0005; Verify dimensions of machined parts using precision measuring instruments/probe to ensure first time quality; Complete checklists and report deviations from specified tolerances; Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs using provided paper and/or electronic logs; Utilize FCS toe clamping and chucks for setup and fixturing. Make all appropriate personnel aware of any potential tooling problems, issues or questions Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs using provided paper and/or electronic logs; Adhering to customer standards on all tool designs and the internal lean manufacturing guidelines Participating in required meetings and training, as requested. Assist in the repair of machine tools and parts, as needed Maintain safe operations by keeping work area clean and organized and by adhering to safety procedures and regulations Maintain the equipment by completing basic preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, initiating repair work orders, etc. Participate in required meetings and training, as requested.

Responsibilities
